At the Pala Alpitur in Turin, with the stage of the men’s and women’s foil Grand Prix, an elite circuit with double points, the Road to World Championships in Milan 2023 makes a stop. After three years, the public returns to the Inalpi Trophy, with a weekend full of emotions that will kick off the FIE foil Grand Prix calendar. On Sunday 12 February 2023, the two individual trials with the finals scheduled from 5.30 pm.
Turin will see the presence of about 400 athletes from all over the world, among the strongest on the world scene, a foretaste of what will happen in Milan from 22 July to 30 July 2023. This will be the eighth World Fencing Championships in Italy, from the first time in Naples in 1929 to the last in Catania in 2011, and for the first time it will be hosted in Milan.
After Turin, once again the scene of the great international kermesse, Milan will be the Italian Fencing Hub with, behind it, an important fencing tradition founded on ancient roots. The Fencing World Championships Milan 2023 represent an extraordinary moment of promotion not only for fencing, but also for Milan and the whole country. The city of Milan, in fact, will be invaded by more than 1,500 athletes from 165 countries for a major international event valid for Qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The run-up to Milan 2023 officially began at the end of November, when the seat of the Organising Committee was inaugurated. Since then, some of the legacy projects related to the World Cup have also started, including the School Project.
On Sunday 12 February 2023, the Road to Worlds opened to the general public for the first time, with a dedicated activation. The World Championships Organising Committee, in fact, thanks to the collaboration of the Inalpi Trophy Organising Committee and FederScherma, was present at the Pala Alpitur with a dedicated corner. The public was involved in a fencing-themed memory game and was invited to register on the Mondiali website to stay up-to-date. For those who participated and registered, there was also a special gift in the name of sustainability: a plantable pencil that, once used, can be planted.
