There was a warm welcome for Luigi Samele at the Istituto Comprensivo Arcadia in via Arcadia 24, in Milan’s Gratosoglio district, where the second meeting of the Schools Project linked to the organisation of the Milan 2023 Fencing World Championships took place on Tuesday 17 January. Also present was the President of the Lombardy Regional Committee, Maurizio Novellini, who accompanied a small representation of the local fencing movement.
The main protagonist of the meeting was the men’s sabre vice-Olympic champion Luigi Samele, just back from a second place last weekend in the GP World Cup stage in Tunis. Samele spoke in front of a large audience of youngsters in the school’s Aula Magna, answering their numerous questions and posing with them for photos. In addition to Samele, Maestro Marco Russo and two athletes from the Cariplo Piccolo Teatro Milano fencing team were also present. The young students of the school were able to take part in a practical test in the gymnasium with plastic material and three fabric platforms laid out for the occasion.
“I experienced an exciting morning at the IC Arcadia in contact and in the midst of a hundred or so middle school pupils who showed great interest in the initiative, not only with their involvement but also with the numerous questions they asked an empathetic Luigi Samele, who won them over,” commented the President of the Lombardy Regional Committee and Vice President of the Organising Committee of Milan 2023 Maurizio Novellini. “I would like to express my gratitude to the school manager and the teachers present, who hosted us with cordiality and affection.
